Heron Bros – Finalist Case Study
Why did you enter the Investors in People Awards 2020?
Heron Bros Ltd entered the Investors in People Awards 2020, not simply as an award for the business, but rather in recognition for each and every employee, past, present and future. Furthermore, as a Main Contractor, based in a rural area, we seek to inspire our wide network of clients, suppliers, sub-contractors and communities.Quite simply we aim to be the best we can be. We believe we are the best and a worthy recipient of this prestigious Award.
You’ve been announced as a Finalist – what does that mean to you and your people?
Heron Bros Ltd are truly honoured to be announced as Finalist. Upon achieving Investors In People Platinum in 2016 after 60 years in business, Mr Michael Heron, one of the founding members noted this was his proudest award in the history of the business. To retain Platinum level in 2019, demonstrating continuous improvementfrom 2016 and be nominated as Finalist is testament to the people values and endeavours of the entire Heron Team, always working as one, going the extra mile, with a common sense of purpose. Our people take great pride in their work and each and every person is honoured, but not surprised to be selected as Finalist.
What would you say is the standout point in your entry?
The standout point in the Heron Bros entry is quite simply our people and what the Heron Team practice each and every day. The standout point is not an event, process or function, it’s the collective Heron Team effort in making a difference in everything we do. Construction is a difficult business, but Heron Bros operate with a smile. We embrace change as the only constant. Despite the challenges with Covid-19, Heron Bros are fully operational with our people delighted to be working, noting “I feel safe”. This is a just recognition of the collaboration and engagement with all staff to ensure covid compliance and the continued success of the business.
What would it mean to win?
We truly believe Heron Bros are a worthy winner of this prestigious Award. To do so would be fitting tribute to the Heron values of relationships, passion and forward-thinking which permeate every facet of our business from recruitment to key negotiations with stakeholders. An extract from our business plan notes “enjoy work…look after the people you work with”. As we enter uncertain times with Covid-19 and Brexit these are core principles for the employer, employee relationships and the wider business community. If Heron Bros were selected as winner we would champion this cause on a global basis and would demonstrate how placing people at the core of business strategy is the key to business success and central to happier, fulfilled and innovative people.Thank you for taking the time to read the Heron Bros Ltd Case Study.
