UK Power Networks – Finalist Case Study
Why did you enter The Investors in People Awards 2020?
Achieving Investors in People Platinum in 2020 is one of our proudest achievements in what is our tenth anniversary year. Our journey with Investors in People started in 2011 when we achieved the Standard for the first time. Using the Investors in People framework in conjunction with regular feedback from our assessor, we progressed from Silver, Gold and now on to Platinum. We entered the Investors in People Awards 2020 to recognise our employees and their achievements during our journey. The spirit of our business is to drive high performance within a set of values and be a high performing organisation that invests in its biggest asset, its employees.
You’ve been announced as a Finalist. What does it mean to you and your people?
To be considered for two awards with Investors in People is a fantastic achievement. The feedback from the judges has provided us with great insight which we have been able to proudly share with employees. To be considered for this award is testament to the managers and employees that make UK Power Networks a great place to work.
What is the standout point in your entry?
Leadership at UK Power Networks has been and continues to be our strongest asset. We have leaders who are focused, accountable and visible, they provide clarity, consistency and give employees opportunities to have their say and help to shape life at UK Power Networks. This is evidenced by the number of employees that actively participate in various initiatives as referenced in our entries. They might be a Diversity & Inclusiveness Taskforce member, a Community Matters champion or a Mental Health First Aider, our CEO and managers make time for employees to bring their whole selves to work and we believe that is a key difference.
What would it mean to win?
This achievement would reinforce that we are on track in supporting, enabling and developing our employees. It places us in strong position to build on the excellent foundations that have been laid in the last ten years with regards to being an Employer of Choice, Sustainably Cost Efficient and a Respected and Trusted Corporate Citizen. It would be the icing on the cake to mark our 10th anniversary as UK Power Networks as we look toward the next decade and continuing our commitment to investing in people.
