Control Energy Costs - Finalists Case Study
Why did you enter The Investors in People Awards 2020?
We only achieved our Investors in People accreditation this year and we were delighted. As a business, we have never been ones to shout about our achievements and the opportunity to enter ourselves seemed like a perfect time to change our mindset.
Taking on board the feedback given in our IIP assessment, we are still striving to make working life even better for everyone within the business and we feel the award entry shows an ongoing commitment to this
Working in a professional services environment means that we have learnt that the more valued our colleagues feel, the more valued they will make our clients and suppliers feel. Happy employees mean happy clients!
We have also been working to build our employer brand and ‘people orientated’ approach to attract new talent and the potential for an award nomination really stood out as something tangible that we could demonstrate to prospective employees.
You’ve been announced as a Finalist – what does that mean to you and your people?
As a small business, it is something every member of the business is incredibly proud of. We all work very hard and being able to tell our employees and clients that we have been shortlisted as a finalist has been yet another highlight for us.
Put simply a huge positive boost to morale at a time when it is very easy for people to get caught up in all the negative news that is around us right now.
What would you say is the standout point in your entry?
We want to avoid the all too typical scenario of having senior members of the team make important decisions about the future of the business behind closed doors. We feel that including junior team members in our recent re-branding exercise and ensuring that going forward we have the buy in, feedback and ideas from everyone means we are all on the same page.
We are also really proud of our staff retention and the reviews we have on Glassdoor. It demonstrates that people like working here – we all spend so much time at work so it is important that people can enjoy themselves too!
What would it mean to win?
Just entering has made us realise what a positive impact shouting about our achievements can have and so to win would send us into overdrive!
We also asked a handful of colleagues for their answer and here is what they said:
“I will shout about it to everyone I know !”
“Fantastic !”
“Absolute gold !”
